That’s Entertainment!, That’s Entertainment, Part II and That’s Entertainment Part III!

January 15, 2005 | By Bill Desowitz

Back in 1974, when the musical and old Hollywood were dead, Jack Haley Jr. orchestrated a brilliant documentary on MGM’s 50-year legacy. That’s Entertainment! quickly became the benchmark for the musical documentary. It featured an abundance of incredible clips (beautifully remastered for this DVD collection) and on-camera introductions by such legends as Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly, Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Jimmy Stewart and Elizabeth Taylor. Cinematography was performed by Allan Green, Ennio Guarnieri, Ernest Laszlo, Russell Metty and Gene Polito. David E. Blewitt and Bud Friedgen were co-editors. Henry Mancini provided original music. Given the popularity of the movie and the voluminous clips still available, two sequels followed in ’76 and ’94, both included in this must-have DVD set.
