Sound editor Paul Huntsman passed away Feb. 21 in his home in Glendale, Calif. He had over 60 films to his credit.
Hendricks was born and raised in Idaho Falls, Idaho. After graduating from the University of Utah with a degree in film, he spent two years with the Peace Corp in Morocco.
He began his career in film in Salt Lake City at Schick Sun Classic, where he worked on several projects, including the TV series Grizzly Adams. After moving to Southern California he worked with director Michael Mann on Thief and Manhunter, and was associate producer on Mann’s TV series Crime Story.
Other films he worked on early in his career include Personal Best, The Hotel New Hampshire, The Karate Kid, St. Elmo’s Fire and To Live and Die in LA.
In 1986 Huntsman began to work at Todd-AO Studios, where he became supervising sound editor. His film credits there included Major League, The Fabulous Baker Boys (for which he won a BAFTA award in 1991), Scent of a Woman, The Firm, Blue Chips, While You Were Sleeping, Grumpier Old Men and Havana.
While working on Havana he met his future wife, sound editor Jessica Gallavan.
In 1996 Huntsman was hired as supervising sound editor for Warner Bros. Studios. He used his knowledge of new digital formats to converted the sound editing department from an analog to a digital-based system.
His Warner Bros. credits include The Thin Red Line, Pay It Forward, K-Pax, The Illusionist and Don King: Only in America, for which he received a Prime Time Emmy nomination.
Huntsman is survived by his wife Jessica, stepson Brendan Gallivan, parents Max and Hazel Huntsman, brother M. David (Angie) Huntsman and sister Beverly (Harland) Hendricks.
