AES and SMPTE to Showcase Sound for Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

AES.SMPTE.2019The Los Angeles Section of the Audio Engineering Society (AES) and the Hollywood Section of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) will host a joint meeting on January 31, 2019 at the Sony Pictures Studio lot in Culver City, California. This month they will be exploring sound production for Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation’s Golden Globe-winning feature film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. In addition to the Golden Globe® win, the film has received broad critical acclaim, including a New York Film Critics Circle win for “Best Animated Feature” and a Los Angeles Film Critics Association win for “Best Animation.”

The Meeting will begin with a panel discussion followed by a screening of the feature film. Panelists will include Supervising Sound Editors Geoffrey Rubay and Curt Schulkey, Re-Recording Mixers Tony Lamberti and Michael Semanick, and Associate Editor (Picture) Vivek Sharma. Carolyn Giardina of The Hollywood Reporter will moderate the discussion.

The meeting will be held in Sony Pictures’ Kim Novak Theatre. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the one-hour panel discussion beginning at 7:30 p.m., followed by the screening. Individual reservations are required for any person entering the Sony Pictures Studio lot. No one under the age of 18 will be allowed.  There will be no exceptions to these requirements.
