Dalsa Closes Woodland Hills Facility

January 11, 2009 | By Scott Lehane

Dalsa recently closed its Woodland Hills, Calif. camera rental house, terminating or redeploying the staff of its Digital Cinema division. The Canadian company, whose core business is manufacturing image sensors, announced in late October that it was committed to eliminating the ongoing losses in its Digital Cinema division by the end of the year.

The company had been conducting extensive negotiations with ARRI over the past several months to sell or license the technology behind its 4K Origin camera. But Dalsa recently announced that it has set aside discussions with ARRI and is “currently pursuing other alternatives to maximize value of its Digital Cinema operations.”

But in a statement, the company stressed that “There can be no guarantee that any of these alternatives will ultimately lead to a successful transaction.”
