Borislav Petrov
Thinkbox Software, developer of creative tools for visual artists in entertainment, engineering and design, announced that Borislav ‘Bobo’ Petrov has joined the company as product specialist. In his new role Petrov will focus on developing and customizing tools and user interfaces, training, tutorials and documentation for Thinkbox’s growing customer base.

Thinkbox develops the popular Deadline render farm manager, Krakatoa high-volume particle renderer, Frost particle mesher and other software applications. Petrov has been contributing to the development of these tools for more than seven years, as a consulting technical director.

A native of Bulgaria, Petrov has more than 25 years of experience in computer graphics and programming. He studied and worked in visual effects in Austria for a decade before landing at Frantic Films in Canada in 2003 as a technical director. Working with Prime Focus VFX (which acquired Frantic Films), Petrov developed pipeline tools and contributed to features including Avatar, TRON: Legacy, Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D, Superman Returns and G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra. An early user of Autodesk 3ds Max, he has also worked as a consultant for Autodesk to develop the MAXScript Online Reference since 2003, and received Autodesk’s 3ds Max Master Award in 2006 for his contributions to the user community.

“Bobo is one of the industry’s top developers, and he’s been a key contributor to making our tools what they are today,” said Thinkbox Software CEO Chris Bond. “In his new role Bobo will also be applying his considerable talents to helping our users customize Thinkbox tools and grow their own expertise.”

“I’m really excited to take on this role,” said Petrov. “I’ll be out in the user community even more, developing specialized tools and tutorials and bringing that learning back into the company to guide feature planning and development for all of the products. It’s great to be working even more closely with my new/old boss Chris Bond. We have some great things in store.”
