Gary Land Films Hockey Tape Commercial Spot on iPhone

-

Hockey TapeSome might be wondering if Apple is planning a new iPhone launch (or at least a new marketing campaign) soon due to the amount of content being shot with iPhones right now. The latest is a new “Shot on iPhone” commercial called Hockey Tape, directed by Gary Land of GLP Creative.

The spot, which you can watch here shows the camaraderie between the Vegas Golden Knights’ Marc Andre Fleury and Mark Stone, a project that was filmed just before the shut-down that launches just as the NHL Playoffs (delayed from March) are about to begin.

According to the press release, Land is an “avowed sports enthusiast” who plays hockey himself, and he’s earned a reputation for directing other sports greats, including last year’s Our Game, which was also “Shot on iPhone,” capturing the phenomenon of Cricket in India.

The press release also provides more info about the production, saying that “Land and his team faced off an impending production shut-down and leapt into action to bring the project to life. Filming at an ice rink in Las Vegas, the spot required extensive pre-light and stand-in players to test the form and function of what they aimed to film: the fun interplay of two hockey pros and the ability of the iPhone 11 Pro to be at the center of the action.”

Yesterday, Below the Line posted a 9-minute short directed by Damien Chazelle using the iPhone in Vertical Mode, and you can watch that short and learn about how it was made here.
