The Hollywood Section of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (better known as SMPTE) will hold its next free Meet an Industry Innovator webinar on September 24 at noon PST with the National Hot Rod Association‘s Director of Post-Production and Supervising Producer Rob Hedrick as its special guest.

Hedrick will talk about how the NHRA returned in July and August with three events at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway after having the racing season postponed by COVID-19. To make it work, Hedrick worked with the NHRA broadcasting team to create a workflow using SonyNewTek and Grass Valley tech along with BeBop‘s remote collaboration platform, so everyone could return to work while still practicing the requisite social distancing.

Hedrick leads a team creating deliverables for Fox Sports and the association’s OTT platform, which he helped create. He has more than 20 years of television experience, having pioneered live streaming since 2004, delivering live coverage of breaking news and weather events, including Hurricane Katrina. Since the pandemic, Rob has transformed his apartment in downtown Los Angeles into an online editing suite to remotely support the NHRA on FOX’s telecast.

The panel will be moderated by Greg Ciaccio, principal of [VIZN] Consulting and a creative technologist with a passion for technology and workflow solutions. Ciaccio serves as Chair of the ASC Motion Imaging Technology Council’s Workflow Committee, which includes the ACES and Advanced Data Management Subcommittees, as well as a Board Member of the SMPTE Hollywood Section, an ASC Associate member and a founding member of the Digital Cinema Society. He helped launch leading-edge products and services including Technicolor’s DP Lights and Deluxe‘s Mobilabs near-set dailies solutions.

SMPTE Hollywood’s Meet an Industry Innovator webinars are free and open to the public but you must register in advance, which you can do here. You can learn more about SMPTE Hollywood and its programs on its official website.
