The Criterion Group Launches Hair and Makeup Symposium

-

Below-the-line talent agency The Criterion Group announced that it will launch a day long symposium highlighting the efforts of the film and television industry’s finest hair and makeup stylists. The new “Hair and Makeup By… A Symposium of Film and Television Artists” is scheduled for Sept. 27 at Loews Hollywood.

The day will kick off with panels focused on issues affecting on-set hair and makeup creation, including “The Makeup Artist” – an informal chat between A-lister artisans Vera Steimberg (Guardians of the Galaxy), Beverly Jo Pryor (Empire), Tym Buacharern (House of Lies) and Melanie Hughes-Weaver (Pitch Perfect 2) who will discuss how they conceive, create and influence on-camera looks.

That will be followed by “The Hair Artist” where top stylists Camille Friend (Hunger Games-Mockingjay I and II), Gail Ryan (Dancing with the Stars), Nina Paskowitz (Iron Man), Melissa Forney (Empire) and Daniel Curet (Sleepy Hollow) will discuss what it takes to be a sought after hair stylist in a competitive industry.

In the third panel, “The Star Clippers,” barber stylists including Stacey Morris (Black-ish), Pierce Austin (Focus) and Conrad Hilton (Jamie Foxx’s personal stylist) will discuss how they incorporate their skills and personalities within the hair community, whether working solo, collaboratively or sharing clientele.

Attendees will also have the ability to participate in one of six hands-on workshops. The workshops include: “The Art of Lashes, Lips and Liners” presented by Vera Steimberg; “The Ladies of Empire” presented by Beverly Jo Pryor and Melissa Forney; “The Star Clippers and the Art of the Clip” presented by Pierce Austin, Stacey Morris and Conrad Hilton; “The Art of Hair” presented by Camille Friend; “From Music Video and Tours to TV and Film – The Art of Makeup” presented by Tym Buacharern and “Organically Oscar – The Art of Natural, Award-Winning Hair” presented by Nina Paskowitz and Gail Ryan.

The event will be capped by a networking mixer featuring light appetizers and beverages hosted by MAC Cosmetics.

Attendees can purchase an all-day pass, a workshop-only pass, panel-only pass, panel/mixer pass or mixer-only pass. Early bird pricing still available until September 1st.
