PNYA’s Green Committee to Discuss Environmental Doc Kiss the Ground

-

PostBreak.Ny AllianceThe Post New York Alliance’s (PNYA) Green Committee is hosting an online movie night to discuss Kiss the Ground, a new Netflix documentary, narrated by Woody Harrelson, about “regenerative agriculture,” a scientifically viable solution to the climate crisis. The event will feature guest speaker Renee Crowley, deputy director of The Lower Eastside Ecology Center.

Free and open to all, the event is scheduled for Wednesday, May 12th at 5:00 p.m. on Zoom. You can REGISTER HERE.

Directed and produced by Josh and Rebecca Tickell, Kiss the Ground shows the impact agricultural practices have on soil and, consequently, atmospheric carbon. Drawing on scientific research and the testimony of leading agronomists and ecologists, the film shows how regenerative agriculture, a no-till, chemical-free farming method, could lead to a more abundant food supply and “reverse climate change” by causing carbon to be absorbed into the soil.

PNYA members and others interested in taking part in the discussion may stream the film on Netflix or register for a screening on the Kiss the Ground website.

Crowley has been working to reduce waste and build strong communities (and soils!) through composting and environmental education for more than a decade. She focuses on strong, community-based programs that empower New Yorkers to live sustainably. She holds a master’s degree in City and Regional Planning from the Pratt Institute and a bachelor’s degree in Environmental and Urban Studies from Hamline University.

PNYA formed its Green Committee last year to promote environmental awareness and green practices in the post-production industry. The group hosts educational events, panel discussions and film screenings. It also sponsors city-wide cleanups. “Our aim is to inspire people to be more informed about environmental issues and to take action,” says Sim senior vice president of post, Kim Spikes, who chairs the group. “We want people to understand what they can do in their professional and personal lives to create a more sustainable society.”

Community members are also invited to join the PNYA Green Committee on Slack.
