Veteran VFX Supervisor Ryan Tudhope has joined the Oscar and Emmy-winning creative studio Framestore as the newest Creative Director and VFX Supervisor on its film and episodic team.

Tudhope worked as production-side VFX Supervisor on Top Gun: Maverick, delivering faultless supporting VFX for this year’s highest-gross movie, which once again soared to the top of the domestic box office over Labor Day weekend, and is also flying high on VOD as it tops all streaming charts.

Other recent projects to bear Tudhope’s creative stamp include Spiderhead (again working as production-side VFX supervisor alongside director Joseph Kosinski) and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power for Amazon Studios, which is one of the most expensive productions in Hollywood history.

A member of the Television Academy as well as the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, Tudhope’s 25-year career as a creative director, visual effects supervisor, and entrepreneur has seen him work on more than 50 major movies and TV shows.

Tudhope was also the co-founder and CEO of VFX studio Atomic Fiction, where he led the studio’s growth to over 350 employees in LA and Montreal. At Atomic Fiction, he oversaw projects such as Ad Astra, Deadpool, Blade Runner: 2049, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Ghost in the Shell, Star Trek Beyond, HBO’s Game of Thrones, and Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey, which earned him an Emmy nomination.

“Anyone — and I think that must mean everyone by this point — who’s seen Top Gun: Maverick knows just how thrilling a cinematic spectacle it is. The forensic attention to detail and absolutely seamless ‘invisible’ FX work played a huge part in this, and they speak to both Ryan’s creative and technical skill and how he led the Method Studios team from pitch to final pixel,” Framestore’s Fiona Walkinshaw said in a statement. “We’re delighted to have him join our growing global team, and we can’t wait to be able to talk about his next project.”

“Having recently been on a whistlestop tour of Framestore’s London, Montreal, and L.A. studios, I’m even more pleased to be joining the team,” added Tudhope. “Framestore is a collaborative, collegiate studio with a focus on learning, development, and pushing the creative and technical envelope — exactly the kind of working environment I sought to foster with Atomic Fiction. Whether I was talking to artists, producers, or members of the R&D team, I encountered a passion for storytelling and innovation, and I couldn’t be happier to be part of such an open and inclusive company.

Framestore’s slate of recent and upcoming film and episodic projects includes Top Gun: Maverick, The Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power, Thor: Love and Thunder, The Little Mermaid, Moon Knight, Doctor Strange In the Multiverse Of Madness, 1899, Beast, Slumberland, His Dark Materials Season 3, Ms. Marvel, The School For Good and Evil, Outer Range, Foundation Season 2, The Wheel of Time Season 2, Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile, Peter Pan and Wendy, The Sandman, and Paddington in Peru.
