ASC Names 2015 Gordon Willis Student Heritage Award Winners

The American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) has named three winners for the 2015 ASC Gordon Willis Student Heritage Awards, which are designed to showcase the artistic abilities of the next generation of filmmakers. The honors were announced Saturday night during a ceremony at the organization’s clubhouse.


Sony Pictures Post Production Services Installs Avid S6

Sony Pictures Post Production Services has installed an Avid S6 control surface in its 158-seat Anthony Quinn Theatre. The largest Avid S6 console installed anywhere to date, the 22-foot long board features 48 faders in each of two sections, along with 12 meter displays, two sets of dual joysticks and two bias panels. It is supported by four Pro Tools HDX2 players and two HDX recorders. The console is connected via high-speed Ethernet to editorial rooms and other facilities on the Sony lot.

MPC New York Announces Studio Expansion

MPC New York announced that it has expanded its SoHo offices, adding a third floor to its creative studio space. MPC NY offers VFX, compositing, color grading, VR and creative experiential project management. Post Haste Digital Forms Strategic Alliance with Larson Studios

Independent postproduction facilities Post Haste Digital and Larson Studios have joined forces to extend audio and video postproduction services in West Los Angeles. As part of the arrangement, Hollywood-based Larson will operate the Main Stage in Post Haste’s Culver City facility, where the studio will service its Westside clients and also lend talent to Post Haste projects. Upcoming projects to be mixed in Larson’s new Stage 10 include Fox’s re-boot of the cult sci-fi series The X-Files.


Mr. Wolf Snaps Up Recent Exceptional Minds Graduate

Culver City-based VFX house Mr. Wolf recently added Exceptional Minds graduate Nicky Benoist to its boutique operation after a brief internship. Exceptional Minds is a vocational school and working studio that provides autistic students with training and experience in the visual arts, including live-action CG integration, 3D animation, story development and marker tracking removal and compositing.
