Tituss Burgess to Host 25th Costume Designers Guild Awards, Which Will Honor Angela Bassett and Bette Midler

Six-time Emmy nominee and recording artist Tituss Burgess (Schmigadoon!) will host the 25th Costume Designers Guild Awards on Monday, Feb. 27 at the Fairmont Century Plaza. The two-hour show will recognize four previously announced honorees including Angela Bassett, Bette Midler, Deborah L. Scott, and Rachael M. Stanley along with the Costume Designers nominated in eight categories.

Celebrating excellence in film, television, and short-form costume design, the CDGA celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, and the show’s presenters will include current Oscar nominee Austin Butler (Elvis) and fellow actors Monica Barbaro (Top Gun: Maverick), Nazanin Boniadi (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power), Greg Tarzan Davis (Top Gun: Maverick), Elizabeth Debicki (The Crown), Ashley Park (Emily In Paris), Lewis Pullman (Top Gun: Maverick), Christina Ricci (Yellowjackets), Haley Lu Richardson (The White Lotus), and Hunter Schafer (Euphoria).

Meanwhile, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever star Letitia Wright and that film’s Oscar-winning Costume Designer Ruth E. Carter will both present the Spotlight Award to Bassett, while Billy Crystal (When Harry Met Sally) and Costume Designers Salvador Perez (Hocus Pocus 2) and Michael Kaplan (Big Business) will present the Distinguished Collaborator Award to Midler. Elsewhere, Andy Garcia (Ocean’s Eleven) and Avatar Producer Jon Landau will both present the Career Achievement Award to Scott, while IATSE President Matthew Loeb will present Stanley with the Distinguished Service Award.

Burgess is an Emmy and SAG Award-nominated actor, musician, and writer who is best known for playing Titus Andromedon in the hit Netflix comedy series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, which brought his many accolades. He reprised his role in the Netflix interactive special Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. the Reverend. Burgess recently co-starred in MGM’s Aretha Franklin biopic Respect, and he’ll soon be seen in Season 2 of the Apple TV+ musical comedy Schmigadoon! His previous feature credits include the Netflix films Set It Up and Dolemite Is My Name. An accomplished voice actor, Burgess also voices one of the lead roles in the animated musical comedy series Central Park on Apple TV+, for which he was nominated for his sixth Emmy. A veteran of the stage, Burgess made his Broadway debut in Good Vibrations and went on to appear in Jersey Boys, the 2009 revival of Guys and Dolls, and The Little Mermaid, in which he played Sebastian.
