LOOK Effects has hired visual effects industry veteran Wendy Lanning as executive visual effects producer. Lanning brings almost 20 years of experience to her new role. She will be based at the company’s Vancouver office, overseeing postproduction projects and working to bring on new films and television shows.

As a producer and production executive, Lanning has a passion for visual effects. Her most recent projects include The Great Gatsby, Out of the Furnace, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Pt. 1, Immortals and Sucker Punch. Previously, as one of the original founding partners of Intelligent Creatures in Toronto, she acted as executive producer on more than 20 feature films, including Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium, Hairspray, The Number 23, The Fountain, Babel, Stranger Than Fiction, Stay, Mr. & Mrs. Smith and The Matador. Other past experience includes serving as visual effects production manager on Panic Room and as visual effects producer on the Oscar-winning Chicago.

Lanning began her career as an assistant editor in 1995 at one of the top offline houses in North America. She has worked with director Peter Bogdanovich on two MOWs. One of the last commercials she assisted on (Budweiser, “Lobster”) won a Silver Lion at Cannes.

After spending three years freelancing on the west coast, Lanning moved to Vancouver, making LOOK her home.

“I am so excited to be joining LOOK,” Lanning said. “I have long been impressed with their work and the projects they work on. Once I started talking to them, I became really excited by their corporate culture and their company vision. This is going to be great fun and a wonderful challenge.”

“Wendy is going to be a great addition to our Vancouver operations and a wonderful asset for the company as a whole,” said LOOK president Mark Driscoll. “Her experience, knowledge of the industry and the people she knows will go a long way in helping us down the path we have planned for LOOK. We’re thrilled she’s joined us.”
