UCLA’s School of Theater, Film and Television (UCLA TFT) announced that the 5th annual Sketch-to-Screen costume design panel is scheduled for Feb. 21. The event, (sponsored by Swarovski), will bring together acclaimed costume designers from 2014’s most provocative films to discuss their craft on the eve of the Academy Awards. Deborah Nadoolman Landis, founding director of the UCLA TFT David C. Copley Center for Costume Design will moderate the discussion.
Current Academy Award nominees Mark Bridges (Inherent Vice), Milena Canonero (The Grand Budapest Hotel), Jacqueline Durran (Mr. Turner) and Anna B. Sheppard (Maleficent), as well as Ruth Carter (Selma), Kari Perkins (Boyhood) and Albert Wolsky (Birdman) – representing three of the eight films nominated for the best picture oscar – will be the panelists.
Due to the popularity of the event, Sketch to Screen has moved this year from its former home, UCLA’s James Bridges Theater, to the university’s larger Schoenberg Hall.
This year, for the first time, Sketch to Screen will be a ticketed event. Proceeds will support UCLA TFT’s David C. Copley Center for Costume Design, which provides a home for the research and the study of costume design history and the influence of costume design on film, fashion and popular culture. Ticket prices range from $10 for general admission to $500, which gives patrons a number of benefits including admission to the Hollywood Costume exhibition, which is curated by Professor Landis and located at the future home of the Motion Picture Academy Museum.
