SIFF Launches Virtual Film Festival

SIFF.23rd.logoSonoma International Film Festival’s (SIFF) new SIFF 2.0 Virtual Film Festival will be held July 30-August 2, 2020. Celebrating its 23rd year, the online showcase offers the best in new independent cinema from around the world with a robust lineup of 110 features, documentaries and short films that includes a selection of World, North American, US and Northern California premieres from 26 countries.

Additionally, if allowable by State, County and City ordinances, SIFF plans to host up to 16 select films screened at various large, outdoor venues, including Drive-Ins. All Coronavirus health orders and guidelines including social distancing, face coverings, event protocols and hygiene requirements will be implemented.

As part of its selection for the 23rd edition, SIFF has included a rich selection of international films by award-winning auteurs, many of whom have represented their respective countries at the Oscars, including:  AgustÌ Villaronga (BORN A KING- UK/Spain), Espen Sandberg (AMUNDSEN – Norway/Sweden/Czech Republic), Samir (BAGHDAD IN MY SHADOW – Switzerland/UK/Germany), Pietro Marcello (MARTIN EDEN – Italy), Mika Kaurismaki (MASTER CHENG – Finland/UK/China), Vladimir Khotinenko (THE LENIN FACTOR – Russia) and Rodrigo Bellott (TU ME MANQUES – Bolivia, a LGBTQI+ themed film).

The SIFF supported Sonoma Valley High School Media Arts Program, highlighting the best in student filmmaking, will be available to screen during the SIFF 2.0 Virtual festival. The SIFF|Devour! Chefs & Shorts Dinner, SIFF|Screen & Cuisine Lunch, SIFF Sip Trips and the annual UFO Symposium have been postponed until further notice in accordance with the current Covid-19 pandemic.

The full Virtual Film Festival lineup will be available at sonomafilmfestival.org starting Friday, July 24. Existing passholders will have all access to the SIFF 2.0 Virtual catalog by reserving their screening selections in advance online; all others can preview the Virtual catalog and film trailers and may purchase a viewing per film, based on availability, or buy a SIFF 2.0 Virtual Pass at www.sonomafilmfest.org.

Animated Storyboards Opens Toronto Office

Animated Storyboards announced that it has launched a new office in Toronto. Maria Hanafy will lead the new studio as managing director, along with four additional staffers - a director, producer, marketing associate and animator/editor. This marks the 10th office for Animated Storyboards, with offices in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, London, São Paulo, Bangkok, Tel Aviv, Düsseldorf and Shanghai. The 4,300-square-foot office will collaborate closely with sister facilities, whose global infrastructure currently includes nearly 300 full-time in-house illustrators, designers, directors, producers and 2D and 3D artists. The facility includes three edit suites, a state-of-the-art audio studio, a conference room and a spacious lobby area for client use.
