Band Pro debuts new Kipon 1.25x CINE Expander at NAB 2024

-

During the National Association of Broadcasters Show (NAB) which took place April 13-April 17, 2024, Band Pro Film announced the debut of Kipon‘s new 1.25x BAVEYES CINE Expander. The Expander is designed to enlarge the image of vintage S35 lenses so they can be used with modern Super 35 cameras. Historically, S35 lenses were designed to cover the Academy Aspect Ratio, so the image produced by some of them is not large enough to cover some modern S35 sensors, because they come in various sizes. With this expander, the image is enlarged by 1.25x, so now you can use vintage lenses like the Angenieux Legacy line with modern S35 cameras like the Arri Alexa 35 or RED Komodo.

This new Kipon Expander magnifies images by a factor of 1.5x, and covers sensors with an image circle of up to 48mm (diagonally). T-Stop is only reduced by a factor of 1.5.

With a maximum light pass through of f2, and maximum immersion depth of 17.5mm (PL mount), this expander is housed in robust aluminum. During the design process, care was taken to leave the character of the lenses used largely unchanged and to ensure the greatest possible compatibility. The lens design consists of 5 lenses in 4 groups.
