Society of Composers & Lyricists Announce Winners of 2nd Annual Awards

SCL Awards
The Society of Composers & Lyricists (SCL) gave out its 2nd Annual SCL Awards on Tuesday, March 2 in a virtual ceremony.

Trent ReznorAtticus Ross and Jon Batiste‘s score for the Disney-Pixar film Soul won in the Outstanding Original Score for a Studio Film, while Lolita Ritmanis’ score for Blizzard of Souls (Dvēseļu Putenis) won for Outstanding Original Score for an Independent Film. Carlos Rafael Rivera‘s score for the Netflix series, The Queen’s Gambit, won for Outstanding Original Score for a Television Production. In what might prove controversial, “Husavik,” the song by Savan Kotecha, Fat Max Gsus and Rickard Goransson written for Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga, beat out songs from Diane WarrenTrent Reznor & Atticus Ross and Sacha Baron Cohen. 

The fifth and final award, Outstanding Original Score for Interactive Media went to Garry Schyman and Mikolai Stroinski‘s score for Metamorphosis, while Composer Terence Blanchard and Filmmaker Spike Lee were presented the Spirit of Collaboration Award for their long-running work together that stretches back thirty years to Lee’s film, Jungle Fever.
