Archeology Documentary Relies on Litepanels

“Dark, dangerous and wet” is how cinematographer Stephen Bean describes the working conditions during his most recent film project, a documentary titled The Undo Cave expedition 2011. Bean works at University College Cork (UCC) in Ireland and is responsible for the ENG/EFP section of the film unit there. Together with an international team of archeology students and scientists from UCC, Bean traveled to the Republic of Georgia to document the work of archaeologists in their search for Paleolithic DNA. Charlex Points the Way for Verizon

Charlex recently finished an amusing Spanish-language :60 promoting Verizon‘s 100% fiber optic network, FiOS. The spot, “Fish Tank” opens on a family living room, with a father and daughter sitting on the couch, mesmerized by Verizon internet and TV. Meanwhile, a tank full of fish, unhappy with their view of the TV, swarm to form the letters “TV” and collectively twist themselves into an arrow, sending a not-so-subtle signal that they want a better view.

84th Academy Awards: Silents are Golden

One way of reading this year’s Oscars is to see a not unusual split between a predominant above-the-line winner – in this case, The Artist – and a strong below-the-line champion – the somewhat surprising Hugo.

But another way to read it – as opposed to last year’s divide between King’s Speech and The Social Network – is that there was a unified theme in most of the academy awards: Hollywood roots and silent films were honored across the board.

Delving into Invisible Arts with Visible Artists

In their annual tradition, the American Cinema Editors once again hosted the “Invisible Arts, Visible Artists” panel of this year’s Oscar-nominated editors. The popular presentation was made to a packed Egyptian Theater, on Feb. 25, the day before the Academy Awards. After an introduction by Motion Picture Editor’s Guild president, Dan Cahn, Alan Heim (All That Jazz) moderated the panel, which included editors Christopher Tellefsen (Moneyball), Thelma Schoonmaker (Hugo), Kirk Baxter and Angus Wall (Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), and Kevin Tent (The Descendants). The 27th Film Independent Spirit Awards were presented on the beach in Santa Monica. The premier awards show exclusively honors independently produced films, while celebrating the filmmakers who embody independence and originality.
