Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild to Celebrate 75 Years

The Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild (IATSE Local 706) will celebrate its 75th anniversary with a special gala evening at The Hollywood Museum on Nov. 3. MAC Cosmetics is the presenting sponsor and The Hollywood Reporter is the official media sponsor of the evening. Red carpet arrivals will begin at 5:30 p.m., cocktails and hors d’oeuvres at 6 p.m. with a special presentation at 8 p.m. for the invitation-only event.

The Guild president, Susan Cabral-Ebert, will introduce the evening and McKenzie Westmore, (SyFy’s FaceOff) will serve as the night’s mistress of ceremonies. Special guests include IATSE International president Matthew D. Loeb, and IATSE vice presidents Michael F. Miller, Jr. and Thom Davis. Proclamations from the city of Los Angeles will be presented from councilmembers Paul Koretz, Richard Alarcon and Paul Krekorian, as well as assemblymen Anthony Portantino and Mike Gatto, among others. In addition, the Los Angeles city council has chosen to declare Nov. 3, 2012 as Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists, IATSE Local 706 Day at a special ceremony at Los Angeles city council on Nov. 2.

A look back at Local 706’s history will conclude with a video tribute to its growth and support of its members. The Hollywood Museum, in the historic Max Factor Building reflects Make-up Artists and Hair Stylists’ history where legend Max Factor created the look of many iconic stars such as Marilyn Monroe and Lucille Ball. Attendees of the celebration will enjoy perusing the vast collection of historical make-up and hair stylists’ memorabilia and exhibits honoring and reflecting Local 706 members work in television and motion pictures.

Animated Storyboards Opens Toronto Office

Animated Storyboards announced that it has launched a new office in Toronto. Maria Hanafy will lead the new studio as managing director, along with four additional staffers - a director, producer, marketing associate and animator/editor. This marks the 10th office for Animated Storyboards, with offices in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, London, São Paulo, Bangkok, Tel Aviv, Düsseldorf and Shanghai. The 4,300-square-foot office will collaborate closely with sister facilities, whose global infrastructure currently includes nearly 300 full-time in-house illustrators, designers, directors, producers and 2D and 3D artists. The facility includes three edit suites, a state-of-the-art audio studio, a conference room and a spacious lobby area for client use.
