Cinema Libre Studio has brought on board Todd Brown, co-founder and owner of the postproduction house West Post Digital in Santa Monica, Calif. Brown will act as vice president, postproduction and business development. Cinema Libre Studio is an independent entertainment company that specializes in production and distribution of narratives and social impact films. Brown will oversee Cinema Libre’s expanded post capabilities in its new location in Burbank – the former THX offices – while establishing programs to aid independent filmmakers both domestically and abroad.

Brown, a 30-year veteran, is known for introducing new technologies to the post community such as D-Vision, one of the first nonlinear editing systems.

Several independent film projects were finished under Brown’s stewardship at West Post Digital, including Forks Over KnivesWe Are Wisconsin and Spirit of the Marathon, as well as many TV series, including South Park, Extreme Makeover: The Home Edition and The Hills. At West Post, Brown started “Partners in Post,” a program which allied the facility and filmmaker’s needs in a mutually advantageous way, including an equity component that solved budget limitations.

Cinema Libre Studio recently took over the THX offices in Burbank and Brown will oversee its expanded facility. Senior editor Tom VonDoom and assistant editor Carlos Velasco, have handled creative editorial and technical deliveries for films such as the Sundance Audience Award-winning Fuel, Oliver Stone‘s South of the Border and Rachid Bourchareb‘s London River.

“I’m excited to be working with the dynamic group at Cinema Libre Studio and looking forward to bringing my experience in post to their successful film distribution business,” said Brown. “It’s a unique opportunity to serve a client’s needs from post to final exhibition of their film.”
