The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences presented the 92nd Academy Awards on Sunday, February 9, 2020 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, CA. The prestigious ceremony honored the finest films of 2019.

The ultimate surprise grand champion of the evening went to South Korean film Parasite for capturing the momentous Best Picture prize. Parasite is the first non-English language film to win in the category of Best Picture since the inception of the Academy Awards during the entirety of the 92-year span of the Oscars. Parasite totaled four Oscar wins in the categories of Best Motion Picture of the Year (Producers: Kwak Sin Ae and Bong Joon Ho), Achievement in Directing (Director: Bong Joon Ho), Best International Feature Film of the Year (Country: South Korea/Director: Bong Joon Ho), and Original Screenplay (Screenplay by: Bong Joon Ho and Han Jin Won/Story by: Bong Joon Ho).

The performance Oscars were awarded to Renée Zellweger for Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in Judy and Joaquin Phoenix for Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role for Joker. Renée Zellweger and Joaquin Phoenix have both been nominated 4 times a piece for an Academy Award with Zellweger winning her second Oscar and Phoenix taking home his first. The Performance by an Actor/Actress in a Supporting Role winners were presented to first time Oscar winners in Laura Dern for Marriage Story and Brad Pitt for his supporting character in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

The technical and crafts awards were bestowed to a diverse collection of films with 1917 leading the charge with three victories in the categories of Achievement in Cinematography (Roger Deakins), Achievement in Sound Mixing (Mark Taylor and Stuart Wilson), and Achievement in Visual Effects (Guillaume Rocheron, Greg Butler, and Dominic Tuohy). Ford v Ferrari slated in second with key technical wins in the Achievement in Film Editing (Michael McCusker and Andrew Buckland) and the Achievement in Sound Editing (Donald Sylvester) categories.

Jacqueline Durran took home the Costume Design Oscar for her outstanding clothing showcased in Little Women, while Production Designer Barbara Ling and Set Decorator Nancy Haigh won in the category of Production Design for the artistic design displayed in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Meanwhile, the Achievement in Makeup and Hairstyling Oscar went to Kazu Hiro, Anne Morgan, and Vivian Baker for their beautiful detail in Bombshell.

The animation Oscars were given to Toy Story 4 (Josh Cooley, Mark Nielsen, and Jonas Rivera) for Best Animated Feature Film of the Year and Hair Love (Matthew A. Cherry and Karen Rupert Toliver) for Best Animated Short Film. The Toy Story franchise has won two Academy Awards in the category of Best Animated Feature Film and this marks the 10th time Pixar has won the Best Animated Feature Film trophy.

Matthew A. Cherry dedicated the Oscar trophy to Kobe Bryant for his second act transition from basketball to filmmaking. Bryant was the winner of the 2018 Academy Award for the Best Animated Short Film titled Dear Basketball.

The music categories of Achievement Written in Music for Motion Pictures (Original Score)
was granted to Hildur Guðnadóttir for the brilliant score in Joker and the song “(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again” from Rocketman (Music by: Elton John/ Lyrics by: Bernie Taupin) won the Oscar for Achievement Written in Music for Motion Pictures (Original Song).

The documentary Oscars were awarded to American Factory (Steven Bognar, Julia Reichert, and Jeff Reichert) for Best Documentary Feature with Carol Dysinger and Elena Andreicheva’s Learning to Skateboard in a Warzone (If You’re a Girl) winning the Oscar in the Best Documentary Short Subject category.
