The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has extended membership invitations to 683 distinguished filmmakers, artists and executives for 2016. Of these 683, 28 are cinematographers (4%), 6 are costume designers (0.8%), 32 are designers (4.6%), 29 are editors (4.2%), 20 are makeup artists or hairstylists (2.9%), 26 are musicians (3.8%), 34 are sounder designers (4.9%), and 34 are visual effect artists (4.9%). Overall 209 of the 683 Academy invitees (30.6%) are in the crafts.
