Thelma Schoonmaker, A.C.E., thanked all of her assistants on Gangs of New York when she received the Eddie for Best Edited Feature Film (Dramatic), the final award presented during he 53rd Anuual ACE Eddie Awards, Feb. 23 at the Beverly Hilton. She and many other honorees offered a nod to their teams during their acceptances that evening.
In addition to the eight editing categories, ACE presented four honorary awards. John Burnett, A.C.E. and Tom Rolf, A.C.E. were honored for Lifetime Career Achievement. Burnett’s credits include The Goodbye Girl, Grease, and The Way We Were. His television work includes a Emmy and Eddie for War and Remembrance.
Rolf’s body of work incudes The Right Stuff, for which he received an Oscar for Best Editing and an Eddie nomination. He also received Eddie nominations for The Horse Whisperer and War Games.
Kathleen Kennedy, whose achievements include ET: The Extraterrestrial and Jurassic Park, became the first woman to receive the Golden Eddie for Filmmaker of the Year. Author Michael Ondaatje received The Robert Wise Award, which recognizes a journalist whose writing has contributed significantly in elevating the public consciousness to the role of editing.
