The Art Directors Guild will proudly honor (ADG, IATSE Local 800) production designer, the late Lawrence G. Paul. The influential artist, who passed away in 2019, will receive the Hall of Fame Honor. The award show’s producers, Michael Allen Glover, ADG, and Megan Elizabeth Bell, ADG, made the announcement regarding the 28th Annual Excellence in Production Design Awards.

Paul’s work continues to inspire audiences and filmmakers to this day. Notably, he was the production designer on Blade Runner – a film that helped not only the sci-fi genre but cinema itself to evolve. “The groundbreaking work of Lawrence Paul continues to be a great inspiration for the many members of the ADG and storytellers throughout the industry,” said ADG President Nelson Coates. “Recognizing his contribution to narrative visual storytelling and his body of work will be a highlight at our annual awards ceremony.”

The list of the artist’s accomplishments is indeed long, including his work on Back to the Future, Romancing the Stone, and City Slickers. The Hall of Fame award will be presented with other Excellence in Production Design Awards during the ceremony, which will take place at the Ray Dolby Ballroom, Ovation Hollywood, on February 10th, 2024.

The ADG Awards nominations will be announced on Jan. 9, 2024.
