ASC’s 2022 Awards Nominees Include Last Year’s Winner, Greig Fraser, for The Batman, Roger Deakins for Empire of Light, and Elvis‘ Mandy Walker

-

The American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) has announced its 2022 award nominees in the feature film, documentary, and television categories, and blockbusters such as The Batman and Top Gun: Maverick will be battling it out for the top prize.

Winners will be announced during the 37th Annual ASC Awards, which will take place on March 5, 2023, at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills. The event will be live-streamed worldwide, and this year’s nominees include last year’s big winner, Greig Fraser, whose work in Dune went on to win him the Oscar for Best Cinematography. This year, it was his work on The Batman that brought him a nomination, though he’s facing stiff competition from Claudio Miranda (Top Gun: Maverick), as well as veterans such as Roger Deakins (Empire of Light) and Darius Khondji (Bardo).

On the TV side, HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon scored two nominations, as did Prime Video’s sumptuous comedy The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Netflix’s spooky anthology series Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities, and a pair of FX series — Atlanta and The Old Man.
