The Costume Designers Guild (IATSE Local 892) has announced its nominations for its 26th Costume Designers Guild Awards (CDGA), honoring achievement of excellence in costume design in film, television, short form design, and illustration. Winners will be announced at the awards ceremony on February 21, 2024.
The CDG Awards have three film categories and 15 nominees vs. the five potential Oscar nominees, and period films tend to go over better with the Academy’s Costume Design branch. Two presumptive frontrunners for the Oscar are Yorgos Lanthimos‘ Poor Things and Greta Gerwig‘s Barbie, which are nominated in Period and Sci-Fi/Fantasy categories, respectively, so either one could win at the CGAs a few weeks earlier than the Oscars.
