The Society of Camera Operators is pleased to announce that Danny DeVito will be the recipient of the 2022 Society of Camera Operators Awards Celebration Governors Award.

In a press release, the SOC said it’s honored to present DeVito with the Governors Award as an acknowledgment of his impressive body of work and his commitment to critical social causes within the entertainment industry. DeVito has had a successful career both in front of the camera and behind it, and he’s both a formidable and versatile artist whose work spans the stage, television, and film.

DeVito is best known for his roles in the TV shows Taxi and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia as well as movies such as Terms of Endearment (1983), Ruthless People (1986), Twins (1988), Batman Returns (1992), Matilda (1996), and The Rainmaker (1997), to name a few.

“We are honored to present this award to such an iconic, talented, and truly brilliant professional as Danny DeVito,” SOC President George Billinger III said in a statement. “His work has inspired so many of us and we are appreciative for all of his extraordinary contributions — to the business and the creative community at large.”

In addition to celebrating the achievements by Hollywood’s exceptional filmmakers and crews, the SOC Awards proudly supports and salutes the Vision Center at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles through their annual contribution of fundraising videos that have garnered $18.8 million in fundraising and charitable donations to date. The Vision Center is an international referral center for children with complex eye diseases and is the only program of its kind in the United States with expertise in virtually every pediatric ophthalmology subspecialty.

The 2022 Governors Award will be presented during the Society of Camera Operators Awards Celebration, which will be hosted virtually this coming Saturday on March 5. The virtual ceremony is free to attend and further information can be found here.
