According to a recent story published by CNN, the 72nd Emmy Awards will take place on September 20, 2020 and air on ABC. On Tuesday, ABC stated that Jimmy Kimmel will serve as host the awards show for the third time, acknowledging in the announcement the fluid nature of this year’s plans due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Kimmel will also serve as an executive producer of the Emmys. “I don’t know where we will do this or how we will do this or even why we are doing this, but we are doing it and I am hosting it,” Kimmel said in a statement.
ABC stated that additional details about the 72nd Emmy Awards will be announced soon.
The announcement of the Emmys host comes one day after The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that the 93rd Oscars would be rescheduled for the first time in 40 years due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Oscars will now take place on April 25, 2021.
