-

LMGA-LogoTwo-time Academy Award winners Alexander Payne and Haskell Wexler, as well as commercial location scout Scott Dewees, have been selected by the board of directors of the Location Managers Guild of America (LMGA) to be honored with the organization’s first honorary awards. The guild’s inaugural awards show, March 29, at the Writers Guild Theatre, will honor Payne with the Eva Monley Award, Wexler with the Humanitarian Award and Dewees with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Payne will receive the Eva Monley Award in recognition of his use of locations to enhance his story telling. His latest film, Nebraska, was nominated this year for six Oscars. For his work on The Descendants, Payne received an Academy Award and two nominations. Additional achievements include a Writers Guild Award, a Golden Globe nomination, two BAFTA nominations, an AFI Award, a Directors Guild nomination, and an Independent Spirit Award and nomination. For his film Sideways, Payne’s many accolades include an Academy Award and nomination.

Wexler, who was judged one of the 10 most influential cinematographers in movie history by an International Cinematographers Guild survey of its members, will receive the Humanitarian Award. He won Oscars for Who’s Afraid of Virginia Wolf? and Bound for Glory, in addition to Oscar nominations for One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (with Bill Butler, 1976), Blaze and Matewan.

Wexler has also directed and shot many documentaries that display his progressive political views. He was the subject of the 2004 documentary Tell Them Who You Are, shot by his son, Mark Wexler. He is one of only six cinematographers to have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The Lifetime Achievement Award will be given to Dewees, who won two California On-Location Awards (COLAs).

Additional awards will be given to honor location professionals who excel in their craft and whose work is visually evident in the final product, to outstanding film commissions, as well as producers, studios and production companies for exceptional locations in feature films and television programs.
