Set Decorators Society of America Announces First-Ever SDSA Awards

SDSA AwardsThe Set Decorators Society of America (SDSA) has announced its first ever SDSA Awards to celebrate the work of Set Decorators and their colleagues for Best Achievement in Film 2020.

The categories for the newly-announced awards will be for:

BEST PICTURE
BEST ACHIEVEMENT IN DECOR/DESIGN OF A FEATURE FILM – PERIOD
BEST ACHIEVEMENT IN DECOR/DESIGN OF A FEATURE FILM – FANTASY
BEST ACHIEVEMENT IN DECOR/DESIGN OF A FEATURE FILM – CONTEMPORARY
BEST ACHIEVEMENT IN DECOR/DESIGN OF A FEATURE FILM – MUSICAL/COMEDY

The categories for feature length films will not include documentaries or animated movies, and there will be a number of honorary awards announced in the future.

Here are the important dates for these awards:

Round One – The list of qualified films will be announced by the SDSA on Feb 8. The initial voting period to determine nominees will commence Feb 8 – 26. Following vote tabulations, the SDSA will announce final nominees in each category on Feb 28.

Round Two – The final voting period will be from March 19 to 29 with the awards in each category announced on March 31.

This will be in addition to the annual Art Directors Guild (ADG) Awards that are presented each year by the related but unaffiliated guild.

Motion capture systems developer Vicon is previewing a futuristic new “Mobile Mocap” technology at SIGGRAPH 2011 in Vancouver. Moving mocap out of the lab and into the field, Vicon's Mobile Mocap system taps several new technologies, many years in the making. At the heart of Mobile Mocap is a very small lipstick-sized camera that enables less obtrusive, more accurate facial animation data. The new cameras capture 720p (1280X720) footage at 60 frames per second. In addition, a powerful processing unit synchronizes, stores, and wirelessly transmits the data, all in a tiny wearable design.
