This year, the SMPTE Honors & Awards Ceremony will take place on Monday, Oct. 24, following the SMPTE 2016 Symposium, and it will feature a red carpet and poolside reception. In addition, honorary membership and the Progress Medal will be conferred at the SMPTE Centennial Gala on Friday, Oct. 28, in the Ray Dolby Ballroom. The Centennial Gala will celebrate SMPTE’s past, present, and future in a compelling program. 2016 Honors & Awards recipients, as well as SMPTE Fellows, will be announced soon. A limited number of tickets is available for both events. Those registering for SMPTE 2016 may elect to purchase both Honors & Awards Ceremony and SMPTE Centennial Gala tickets as add-ons to conference packages. Accredited members of the press who wish to attend these events may request credentials here. Note that event credentials are separate from SMPTE 2016 Annual Technical Conference & Exhibition registration.

Vicon Introduces Mobile Mocap at SIGGRAPH

Motion capture systems developer Vicon is previewing a futuristic new “Mobile Mocap” technology at SIGGRAPH 2011 in Vancouver. Moving mocap out of the lab and into the field, Vicon's Mobile Mocap system taps several new technologies, many years in the making. At the heart of Mobile Mocap is a very small lipstick-sized camera that enables less obtrusive, more accurate facial animation data. The new cameras capture 720p (1280X720) footage at 60 frames per second. In addition, a powerful processing unit synchronizes, stores, and wirelessly transmits the data, all in a tiny wearable design.
