Submissions Now Open for 70th Annual MPSE Golden Reel Awards Honoring Outstanding Sound Editing

Submissions are now open for the 70th Annual MPSE Golden Reel Awards, which honor outstanding achievements in sound editing in movies, television, animation, documentaries, games, and student work.

The Motion Picture Sound Editors made the announcement on Thursday, noting that the ceremony will take place on Sunday, Feb. 26, 2023, at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles. The submission deadline for the student film categories is Monday, Oct. 31, while the submission deadline for all categories ends on Dec. 12. Nominations voting begins on Dec. 19 and ends on Jan. 2, 2023, though eligibility only extends to Dec. 31, 2022.

Golden Reel nominations will be announced on Jan. 9, with Blue Ribbon Voting set to begin Jan. 20 before concluding on Feb. 21 — five days before the actual ceremony.

  • Friday, Jan. 20, 2023: Blue Ribbon Voting Begins
  • Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2023: Blue Ribbon Voting Ends
  • Sunday, Feb. 26, 2023: 70th Annual MPSE Golden Reel Awards

This year’s Golden Reel Awards will be the first in three years to be held live and the MPSE is going all out to make it a special evening in the spirit of Old Hollywood. The ceremony will include a new venue — the historic, 1238-seat Wilshire Ebell Theatre, along with surprise guests and features as the entertainment industry’s leading sound organization celebrates its 70th year in recognizing the outstanding creative accomplishments of those who practice this essential craft.
