Nick Taylor
By Carl Kozlowski
Nick Taylor, a former cameraman on movies like Courage Under Fire, opted to become a commercial cinematographer once he had a family. He now shoots for clients like Visa, Coca Cola and this year’s Gillette Super Bowl spot.
Taylor has experienced Otto Nemenz customer service around the globe. “I can’t afford any mistakes because they reflect on me, so part of my job is to ensure that I’m using the newest and best equipment available,” says Taylor. “I know I can rely on their knowledge and technical support and can call [general manager] Alex Wengert from anywhere in the country or the world and get a new piece of equipment. He FedExed me a Nicor 300 mm to Australia when I couldn’t find one there, and sent me two complete Arri packages to the Ecuador rainforest.”
“They never let me down,” Taylor adds. “When you rent a camera from Otto, you have security and peace of mind. I can reach someone there 24 hours a day. It’s terrific to know they’re covering my back at all times.”

Vicon Introduces Mobile Mocap at SIGGRAPH
Motion capture systems developer Vicon is previewing a futuristic new “Mobile Mocap” technology at SIGGRAPH 2011 in Vancouver. Moving mocap out of the lab and into the field, Vicon's Mobile Mocap system taps several new technologies, many years in the making. At the heart of Mobile Mocap is a very small lipstick-sized camera that enables less obtrusive, more accurate facial animation data. The new cameras capture 720p (1280X720) footage at 60 frames per second. In addition, a powerful processing unit synchronizes, stores, and wirelessly transmits the data, all in a tiny wearable design.
