The Screen Actors Guild has unveiled key dates for the 29th SAG Awards, which will take place on Sunday, Feb. 26, 2023.
Nominating committees were formed earlier this month, and the submission period for film and television is now open. Submissions will no longer be accepted after Friday, Oct. 21 at 5 p.m. PT.
Voting for SAG Award nominations will begin on Monday, Dec. 5 and close on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2023 at 5 p.m. PT. The nominations will be announced on Wednesday, Jan. 11.
Final voting will begin the following week on Wednesday, Jan. 18, and it will close on Friday, Feb. 24 at 12 p.m. PT.
Producers of the 2023 SAG Awards are still looking for a broadcast partner after its longtime partner TNT (and its sister network TBS) was forced to drop the show following the Warner Bros.-Discovery merger.
Contenders for the Best Ensemble award are likely to include Steven Spielberg‘s The Fabelmans and Sarah Polley‘s Women Talking, while commercial hits such as Top Gun: Maverick, Everything Everywhere All at Once, and the upcoming Marvel sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever are also expected to be in the mix, though the modest indie movie CODA won the award last year.
Meanwhile, IP-driven tentpoles also loom large in the TV races, where actors from HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon will no doubt do battle with cast members from Amazon’s epic Tolkien series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
