Digital Cinema Society to Hold DCS Cinema Lighting Expo on March 18 at IATSE Local 80 Stage in Burbank

RSVPs are now being accepted for the Digital Cinema Society’s DCS Cinema Lighting Expo, an exploration of motion picture lighting and grip technology with participating manufacturers including (in alphabetical order):

The event will return to the IATSE Local 80 stage in Burbank, CA on Saturday, March 18th. Get hands-on with the latest gear and learn from practical lighting demos by renowned cinematographers and lighting experts.

Time: Saturday, March 18th

Doors open at 9:30AM with presentations starting at 10AM and ending at 5:00PM

Note: All are welcome, but please give your first and last name, as no one without a confirmed RSVP will be admitted. If you want to bring a guest, feel free to share the link, but we’ll need their name and a separate email address in order to confirm the RSVP. We will stop accepting RSVPs at 4PM Friday, March 17th.

DCS will also bestow its second annual “Dibie Award”, given in memory of George Spiro Dibie, the multi-Emmy winning Cinematographer and longtime president of the International Cinematographers Guild who worked tirelessly to help to educate our industry about motion picture lighting. This year’s recipient will be John Gresch, who recently retired after 36 years with ARRI. John exemplifies George’s spirit in freely sharing his knowledge with the entertainment lighting community. The award will be presented with the assistance of John’s longtime friend, Donald A. Morgan, ASC.

Masks are optional and social distancing is encouraged when possible.

Motion capture systems developer Vicon is previewing a futuristic new “Mobile Mocap” technology at SIGGRAPH 2011 in Vancouver. Moving mocap out of the lab and into the field, Vicon's Mobile Mocap system taps several new technologies, many years in the making. At the heart of Mobile Mocap is a very small lipstick-sized camera that enables less obtrusive, more accurate facial animation data. The new cameras capture 720p (1280X720) footage at 60 frames per second. In addition, a powerful processing unit synchronizes, stores, and wirelessly transmits the data, all in a tiny wearable design.
