Universal Pictures‘ movie adaptation of the award-winning Broadway musical, Dear Evan Hansen, just opened theatrically in North America, and SETDECOR, the magazine of the Set Decorators Society of America (SDSA), has posted another extensive interview with two of the members of the film’s art team, Set Decorator Lance Totten SDSA and Production Designer Beth Mickle.
Totten says as introduction, “Much of the challenge of this project was trying to strike the right mood for each of the characters’ physical environments. The script is obviously the starting point, but we often have to do a lot of independent thinking and discussion among ourselves to arrive at a finished product that will inform the audience as to whom they are watching.”
The interview is great, but the pictures are absolutely incredible in showing the work that went into creating the environments for this incredibly powerful story.
