LOOK Effects has named visual effects industry veteran Janet Muswell director of development for its international operations. Muswell brings over 20 years of broad industry experience to the newly-created post.
Muswell started her career in London in the music video world, working with artists such as The Traveling Wilburys, Alison Moyet, Prefab Sprout, Morrissey and Paul Young. Upon moving to Los Angeles, she established her reputation for cutting-edge visual effects on a wide range of television series including Star Trek: The Next Generation and V.R.5. From TV she moved into theatrical features, serving as VFX producer or supervisor on everything from the cult classic Snakes on a Plane, to the Tom Cruise/Cameron Diaz feature Knight and Day and the recent film The Muppets.
Muswell’s background includes visual effects and animation for theatrical features, IMAX, television, commercials, stereoscopic special venues and management for a variety of post, visual effects and production companies.
An honored finalist in the 2012 PGA Producers Showcase competition with her comedy feature Cargo Cult, Muswell has recently expanded her efforts to include the development of original projects that build upon her knowledge of the new digital face of the feature industry.
“Last year as VFX supervisor and producer on The Muppets, I had the opportunity to work with LOOK and saw the high quality of their product, as well as their outstanding management and creative teams,” Muswell said. “The chance to grow their visual effects business, and in addition, to collaborate with them in content creation is extremely intriguing.”
“Having Janet join us is a big step in the direction we want to go,” said LOOK president Mark Driscoll. “The experience and industry respect she brings with her makes her the perfect person to develop new business in visual effects for an expanding roster of clients, and to guide us as we grow our business into new arenas. We are thrilled to have Janet as a new and vital member of our executive team.”
