Modus FX Signs with International Creative Management

Montreal-based visual effects house Modus FX announced that it has signed with International Creative Management (ICM), one of the world’s largest talent and literary agencies. Modus FX is the first Canadian postproduction house to be included in the entertainment agency’s roster. The partnership between ICM and Modus FX will provide Hollywood studios with easier access to Modus’ capabilities for project development, VFX supervision and postproduction.

Recent Modus FX credits include The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part I, which is set to release in November; Tarsem Singh’s Greek mythology Immortals, slated for release this fall; the sci-fi thriller Source Code, and BBC Films‘ adaptation of Jane Eyre.

“Audience expectations for visual effects keep rising, so every new production faces a new challenge, even if they don’t have a blockbuster budget,” said Valerie Delahaye, who heads Modus’ Los Angeles office. “Filmmakers and studios get a much better return on their postproduction dollars when they have a visual effects partner who can work with them during development. We help them to foresee technical issues before they happen, and guide them to elegant, artistic solutions.”

Vicon Introduces Mobile Mocap at SIGGRAPH

Motion capture systems developer Vicon is previewing a futuristic new “Mobile Mocap” technology at SIGGRAPH 2011 in Vancouver. Moving mocap out of the lab and into the field, Vicon's Mobile Mocap system taps several new technologies, many years in the making. At the heart of Mobile Mocap is a very small lipstick-sized camera that enables less obtrusive, more accurate facial animation data. The new cameras capture 720p (1280X720) footage at 60 frames per second. In addition, a powerful processing unit synchronizes, stores, and wirelessly transmits the data, all in a tiny wearable design.
