Manhattan Edit Workshop (MEWShop) has chosen editor Troy Takaki, ACE, as its Artist in Residence for its six-week intensive post-production workshop, which begins on September 14.
Takaki has edited hit movies like Reese Witherspoon‘s Sweet Home Alabama and Will Smith‘s Hitch, splitting his time between features and television and has championed mentorship and inclusion through the ACE Internship Program and the ACE Diversity Program, which he cofounded. Recently, Takaki edited You for Netflix and Mr. Mercedes for DirecTV. He has also worked on hit series like Desperate Housewives, Ally McBeal and Tales from the Crypt. He then transitioned to features with his work on Jawbreaker, This Girl’s Life, Because I Said So and more.
About their new Artist in Residence (available schedule-permitting), MEWShop President Jason Banke said in a statement: “Troy Takaki’s 30 years of editing experience and work in mentorship in the editing industry will give our new students an unparalleled opportunity to learn from one of the most experienced editors in the industry.”
The next installment of MEWShop’s Six Week Intensive Workshop will be taught exclusively LIVE online beginning starting September 14, 2020 and held Monday through Friday from 10 AM to 6 PM.
The Online Six-Week Intensive Workshop focuses on the training necessary to use programs like Premiere Pro, After Effects and Avid Media Composer, and part of the workshop is dedicated to the best strategies one can use to fin a job once the class is over.
Banke said about the move to a digital program: “We have successfully replicated our one-of-a-kind workshop and experience online since March. What is really thrilling to us now is being able to offer our signature workshop outside of the New York area for students anywhere in the world.”
