Such Video Receives New Blackmagic Cinema Camera

-

LR-Black Magic CameraLansing, Mich.-based Such Video, a production and post boutique, has added the new Blackmagic Cinema Camera to its arsenal. Shown at the National Association of Broadcasters Show, the camera was in limited production and Such Video was one of the first companies to receive the device.

“People have really embraced the HDSLR video shooting,” explained David Such, partner at Such Video. “And while they are good tools, people are capturing video on cameras which were engineered for still photography. Even the highest end HDSLR cameras record files that are compressed, with definite limits for handling light, movement and audio, which limits options in postproduction. The Blackmagic Cine Camera answers those problems. You can still utilize a wide variety of 35mm lenses, with a camera that was engineered for video, not stills. The raw image is almost twice the size and resolution of existing HD video. Current HD video is 1920×1080 pixels. The Blackmagic 2.5K is 2432×1366 pixels.”

Such Video has also added Blackmagic’s DaVinci Resolve. The color correction tool normally used in major motion pictures is now designed to work with the Blackmagic Cinema Camera.

At the NAB Show, Such team members spent two days on the convention floor exploring all of the new gear and software, testing workflows and providing feedback.

“It really gives us an edge to have the chance to develop relationships first hand, take seminars directly from the people who developed the software and come back with all of that knowledge to integrate it into our business,” partner Karen Stefl said.

“It means we have one of the best acquisition cameras out there, which provides us more latitude in postproduction,” Stefl said. “More color spectrum to work with and the right tools to do color correction and enhancing in house. The Blackmagic is a camera that we don’t have to adapt a ton, just to force it to be a video camera.”
