Screen Actors Guild Shares Nominees for 2021 SAG Awards for Film and Television

-

SAG AwardsAnother above-the-line guild, the Screen Actors Guild (SAG), has shared its nominations for the upcoming 2021 Screen Actors Guild Awards in film and television, which will be handed out live on Sunday, April 4, airing on TNT and TBS.

Many of both the movie and television awards mirrored the Golden Globe nominees from yesterday, although on the motion picture side of things, Spike Lee’s Da 5 Bloods received more love with its ensemble cast being nominated, as well as Chadwick Boseman being a double nominee for supporting in Lee’s film and lead in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, for which Viola Davis also received a nomination, as did the entire ensemble. The Cast in a Motion Picture category was filled out by Lee Isaac Chung‘s Minari, Regina King‘s One Night in Miami, and Aaron Sorkin‘s The Trial of the Chicago 7.  Three of the five movies were released by Netflix. Minari received notably more love from SAG than from the Golden Globes with three acting nominations.

Da 5 Bloods and The Trial of the Chicago 7 also received nominations in the newer stunt ensemble category, joined by MulanNews of the World and Wonder Woman 1984. (Christopher Nolan‘s Tenet was noticeably absent in a category where it should have been an easy nominee.)

As far as the television nominees, Pop TV‘s Schitt’s Creek continues to dominate in the comedy series awards with an ensemble nomination as well as four individual nominations with father and son, Eugene and Dan Levy, nominated in the same category, while Annie Murphy and Catherine O’Hara nominated in the other.

Netflix dominated these nominations, as well, with The Crown and Ozark receiving numerous individual awards as well as for the respective shows’ ensemble cast. Netflix’s newest show, Bridgerton, also entered the fray with two nominations, including one for René-Jean Page, while the two lead actresses from Dead to MeChristina Applegate and Linda Cardelini, were both nominated. Olivia Colman also received multiple nominations, one for her supporting role in The Father and two for her role in The Crown.
