The Society of Camera Operators (SOC) announced a call for entries for its Technical Achievement Awards, slated for Feb. 19 at the Leonard Goldenson Theater, Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Campus in North Hollywood, Calif. Submissions, which are due by midnight Dec. 9, will be evaluated by members of the SOC technical standards committee.
Past recipients have helped camera operators shoot in every environment, from under the ocean to the surface of the moon. Past winners include: Arriflex Corporation, Buzz Aldrin and NASA, Cartoni USA, Chapman Studio Equipment, Cinema Products and Garrett Brown, SOC, Doggiecam, Fuji Photo Optical Company, Geo Film Group, George H Worral, Sr., GPI/PRO Camera Support System, Hot Gears and Mehran Salamati, Hydroflex, JL Fisher, John M. Stephens, Louma Crane, Matthews Studio Equipment and Bob Nettmann, Nelson Tyler, OConnor, Panavision and Albert Mayer, Sr., Preston Cinema Systems, Sachtler, Shotmaker Company, Slit Scan Motion Picture Photography Process, Sony , Technocrane, Tiffen and Steadicam Ultra2, Ultimate Arm Gyro Stabilized Camera Crane, Vinten and Weaver/Steadman.
The Society of Camera Operators Lifetime Achievement Awards also serves as the SOC’s primary fundraiser for the Vision Center at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, which the SOC has supported since its charter in 1981, having donated over $160,000 to date.
