It’s not quite a counter-proposal, more like the stuff we see out of Washington: A “study group” is announced –this time by the studios — to come up with ostensible “solutions” to compensating folks whose work winds up in new media outlets both known, and, of course, yet-to-be-discovered.
The story first showed up in Variety, a few days after tax time, then traveled all over the wires.
Actually, to be fair, the producers are asking the writers and actors to fund half the thing, so the third-party conclusions — whatever they might be — will be literally and metaphorically “owned” by both sides.
The proposed panel is to be staffed by entertainment industry “experts,” but as the Vietnam and Iraq wars have taught us, “expertise” in this day and age, ain’t what it used to be.
More as it happens.
