According to a report from Deadline, Santa Monica-based sound facility Pacific Ocean Post closed its doors Monday, laying off 15-20 employees.
The company handled sound production for blockbusters including The Avengers, Iron Man 3, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and Despicable Me 2 along with best picture Oscar winner Argo.
In December, POP Sound announced a merger with Soundelux Design Music Group, but in late May, Todd-Soundelux filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, laying off roughly 30 people and shuttering facilities in Hollywood and Santa Monica. The company’s Burbank facility is staying open.
At the time, the company released a statement explaining that “This action has been necessitated by a significant decline in revenues, primarily in the feature film segment, which has impacted the independent postproduction sound business in the Los Angeles area.”
