Ace & Son Moving Picture Company Launches

-

Veteran animation producer Richard O’Connor has launched Ace & Son Moving Picture Company – a New York-based studio specializing in animation and motion graphics with added capacity for documentary editorial. Operating out of a 1,500-square-foot studio space in Chelsea, the studio has already produced a reel for the Ottawa International Animation Festival. Other recent projects include spots for Web.com through Fly Communications, effects and animation for a breast cancer awareness PSA directed by Alicia Arinella of On the Leesh Productions, an animated segment for PBS’ Need to Know and work for several other documentaries and films.

O’Connor will act as executive producer/creative director working with a staff which includes producer Gail Levin, associate creative director Liesje Kraai, and animator/designers DeAndria Mackey and Kelsey Stark.

O’Connor has been producing and directing animation since the 1990s while working under R. O. Blechman at The Ink Tank. In 2003, he co-founded Asterisk Animation, where he was producer/director on animation for feature films including The Stepford Wives, White Countess and The Private Lives of Pippa Lee, documentaries Nursery University, Marvin Gaye: What’s Going On? and Jeff Bridges: The Dude Abides as well as spots for Mercedes Benz, Infor and Maybelline.

In addition to film production, he is an adjunct at Parsons School of Design, a frequent blogger and at one time had a regular advice column in Jane Magazine.
