Arri gave a preview of new Alexa features scheduled to be released during 2012 at NAB in Las Vegas. These features will be delivered in free Software Update Packets (SUPs) throughout the year.
The new ALEXA capabilities are designed to improve ALEXA’s overall image quality with a new Debayer algorithm that provides cleaner, sharper-looking images, especially on high-contrast edges and in areas with fine detail.
Two new ProRes recording formats, ProRes 4:3 (2048 x 1536) and ProRes 2K (2048 x 1152) are ideal for those who want to utilize the simple, fast and efficient ProRes workflow for anamorphic or spherical feature films. For DNxHD license owners, DNxHD 444 (10 bit 4:4.4) will provide high quality in-camera DNxHD mastering.
A large number of frequently requested features and user interface tweaks will also be released, including vertical image mirroring for quick low mode Steadicam shots, the ability to post trigger recording, card spanning, compatibility with the Cooke /i system and compatibility with the ARRI Ultrasonic Distance Measure.
