Leitz Begins Delivery of Anticipated HUGO Cine Lenses to Two European Rental Houses

-

Ernst Leitz Wetzlar GmbH has begun delivery of the Leitz HUGO cine lenses with two sets arriving at rental houses in France and Sweden. Stockholm-based Ljud & Bildmedia received a set from Norway’s Camera Nordic; the second set went to equipment rental RVZ in France.

The Leitz HUGO lenses are among the most compact, high-speed optics for cinematography. Based on the iconic Leica M glass, the HUGO full frame lenses feature a production-ready housing with expanded focus and iris scales, an LPL mount, and T1.5 aperture through the set with the option of an additional 50mm T1.0 lens. Their character-rich, center-weighted image is reminiscent of older optics, but with modern coatings and greater reliability.

“We are excited to get the Leitz HUGO lense out into the market,” said Rainer Hercher, Managing Director of Ernst Leitz Wetzlar. “Making these outstanding optics available to cinematographers has been a long-time dream of the company and we can’t wait to see the images that will be created with these lenses.”

More sets are expected to be delivered in the coming month. Leitz will be demonstrating the lenses at various events including the BSC Expo in London and the AFC Micro Salon in Paris.

You can learn more about the lenses at Leitz-Cine.com.

Vicon Introduces Mobile Mocap at SIGGRAPH

1
Motion capture systems developer Vicon is previewing a futuristic new “Mobile Mocap” technology at SIGGRAPH 2011 in Vancouver. Moving mocap out of the lab and into the field, Vicon's Mobile Mocap system taps several new technologies, many years in the making. At the heart of Mobile Mocap is a very small lipstick-sized camera that enables less obtrusive, more accurate facial animation data. The new cameras capture 720p (1280X720) footage at 60 frames per second. In addition, a powerful processing unit synchronizes, stores, and wirelessly transmits the data, all in a tiny wearable design.
