Santa Monica-based postproduction company Butcher announced that it has added editor Jason Painter to its roster. For the past five years, Painter has worked for Nomad in New York and Los Angeles.

“We’re thrilled to have Jason on board,” said Butcher partner and executive producer Rob Van. “We’ve always admired his aesthetic and he’s the perfect addition to our growing team of creative talent.”

After receiving a degree in visual communications, one of Painter’s first major jobs was on the “Terry Tate Office Linebacker” campaign for Reebok, which won a Gold Lion at Cannes, an AICE award for best edit and a CLIO award. After that, he spent 12 years working with such brands as Apple, Chevy, Hyundai, Pepsi, Twix, ESPN, Visa, Burger King, Hyatt Hotels, and most recently, Credit Suisse, Dodge RAM, Toyota, State Farm and FIAT. Painter was also nominated for two Emmys for editorial work on the MTV PSA, “Train,” which helped raise awareness about hate crimes by bringing the Holocaust into a modern context.

Vicon Introduces Mobile Mocap at SIGGRAPH

1
Motion capture systems developer Vicon is previewing a futuristic new “Mobile Mocap” technology at SIGGRAPH 2011 in Vancouver. Moving mocap out of the lab and into the field, Vicon's Mobile Mocap system taps several new technologies, many years in the making. At the heart of Mobile Mocap is a very small lipstick-sized camera that enables less obtrusive, more accurate facial animation data. The new cameras capture 720p (1280X720) footage at 60 frames per second. In addition, a powerful processing unit synchronizes, stores, and wirelessly transmits the data, all in a tiny wearable design.
