Five Features Slated For Dolby Cinema

-

Dolby Laboratories announced that Disney, Lionsgate and Twentieth Century Fox will release five live-action and animated features for its Dolby Cinema system, which combines Dolby Vision high dynamic range imagery with Dolby Atmos immersive sound.

The first of the new titles joining the Dolby Cinema slate will be Twentieth Century Fox’s Deadpool, in theatres Feb. 12. Additional titles include Disney’s Zootopia, March 4 and The Jungle Book, April 15; Lionsgate’s The Divergent Series: Allegiant, March 18, and Lionsgate’s Now You See Me 2, June 10.

“With the announcement of the new slate of highly anticipated animated and live-action stories, audiences will get to experience a variety of theatrical titles with vivid imagery and immersive sound when visiting a Dolby Cinema,” said Curt Behlmer, senior vice president, content solutions and industry relations, Dolby Laboratories. “Collaborating with the world’s leading creatives in Hollywood, we are able to provide an extraordinary cinema experience to audiences around the world.”

Twentieth Century Fox recently The Revenant and The Martian in Dolby Cinema.

“We pride ourselves on embracing the latest technology that helps bring our stories to life for all of our tent-pole releases, and the use of Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos for The Revenant and The Martian are testaments to the value Dolby can deliver to Hollywood movies,” said Chris Aronson, president of domestic distribution, Twentieth Century Fox. “Dolby Vision is a great tool as hundreds of colors play a major role in our storytelling, along with the moving audio of Dolby Atmos. These technologies will forever change the way moviegoers watch our films.”

The Dolby Vision projection system uses state-of-the-art optics and image processing to deliver strikingly vivid high dynamic range imagery. Dolby Atmos moves audio around the theatre, even overhead, with amazing richness and depth.

To date, 22 features have been mastered for Dolby Cinema since its launch last May with Tomorrowland. In the U.S., there are currently 13 Dolby Cinemas at AMC Prime locations, with up to 50 locations planned for the end of this year.
