LAPPG Offers Sound Panel on Working With iZotope RX8

Los Angeles Post Production Group (LAPPG) is offering a free Zoom panel on Thursday, October 22, between 5pm and 6pm PDT, titled Sound Panel: Working with Isotope‘s RX8.

It will focus on various sound professionals and how they use the industry standard plug-in RX8 for their work. Woody Woodhall, CAS will be the moderator, joined by Dialog Editor and Re-recording Mixer Doug MountainAudio Mechanics Founder and Chief Engineer John Polito, and Juniper Post Supervising Sound Editor/Re-recording mixer David Barber.

You can (and must) register for the panel here, and the Zoom panel will admit the first 100 participants. Any spill-over will still be able to watch the livestream on LAPPG’s YouTube channel. (Past panels are archived there.) Because there will be a giveaway, it’s important to register using your real name, valid Email address and current phone number in case you win, although you do have to stay until the end of the event.

Like painters who have their “go to” set of brushes and paints, audio professionals also have their own set of tools which they lean on during the creative and technical process of creating a soundtrack. This month we will be exploring the audio world with three top sound professionals as they share their experiences and discuss their use of iZotope’s latest version of their industry standard plug-in, RX 8. Learn how they use this essential toolkit to help them mix, master and restore high level projects and create stellar sonic universes.

Woody Woodhall, CAS
Moderator

Woody Woodhall is Studio Principal of Allied Post Audio in Santa Monica, CA and is an award-winning supervising sound editor, sound designer and re-recording mixer. Woody has sound edited and mixed hundreds of episodes of programming for Netflix, Amazon Studios, YouTube Red, CBS/Viacom, NBC/Universal, among others and is also the co-founder of the Los Angeles Post Production Group, a writer for the Sound for Film channel for Pro Video Coalition, and author of the college textbook Audio Production and Post Production. He is currently mixing Discovery’s upcoming new docuseries CAL Fire.

Dialog Editor and Re-recording Engineer

Doug Mountain (All American, Animal Kingdom, The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead, Catch 22, All American, Community, Oscar Awards, Grammy Awards) has been recording and mixing audio for film, television, and music for over 35 years. He is currently the Senior Dialog Editor for Warner Brother Post Production Service and a Restoration Editor/Mixer for Paramount Pictures.

John Polito

John Polito
Founder, Chief Engineer of Audio Mechanics

John Polito is one of the pioneers of digital audio restoration. He graduated with honors from Stanford University specializing in signal processing and composition at CCRMA (Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics). In 1987 he became Product Manager for the subsequently highly successful NoNoise system, working closely with major record labels as an expert in the burgeoning archive reissue field. Mr. Polito founded Audio Mechanics in 1991 and recently won the International FOCAL award for best restoration project 80 years of Olympic films by the International Olympic Committee. Other notable clients include 20th Century Fox, Walt Disney Studios, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Paramount Studios, Warner Brothers, UCLA Film & Television Archive, Academy Film Archive, The Library of Congress, and the FBI. Recent projects include Young Frankenstein, The Hustler, The Grapes of Wrath.

David Barber

David Barber
Supervising Sound Editor/Re-recording Mixer for Juniper Post, Inc.

David Barber crossed over from the music world in 2004 and he’s has been editing and mixing for film and television for the past 16 years. He is a 3-time winner of the MPSE Golden Reel Award, most recently for his work on Taron Lexton’s In Search of Fellini. Current projects include Season 2 of the Netflix Original Series Special, Season 2 of the Emmy-Nominated Hulu Original Series PEN 15, as well as the feature films, After, Escape Plan: Extractors, and the soon to be released Chick Fight starring Alec Baldwin and Malin Akerman. David currently sits on the Board of Directors for the Motion Picture Sound Editors.
